It is an undisputed fact that we are under constant attack from the enemy. Just as we strive to develop an immunity to the bacteria and viruses that are trying to compromise our physical health, we must build up our spiritual immunity to the attacks of the enemy. How do we overcome the attacks of the enemy?
- Resist the Devil: James 4:7 exhorts us to “resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Peter tells us to be steadfast in the faith and resist the devil (1 Peter 5:8).
- Submit yourself to God: This is really a prerequisite to resisting the devil. We cannot resist the devil in our own strength but we can do it through God’s grace. However God gives grace only to the humble (James 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:6-9).
- Run to the Throne of Grace: Hebrews 4:14-16 reminds us to go to our Great High Priest, Jesus Christ to obtain grace in our time of need. The greatest time of need for a Christian is when we are being tempted by the enemy. It is at this time that we go with confidence to the Throne of Grace to receive the grace that will allow us to submit to God and resist the devil.
